Council Facilities and Rentals

Girl Scouts of Spar and Spindle Council owns and operates five properties in northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The properties are maintained primarily for the benefit of the girls. During summer and throughout the school year, Girl Scouts enjoy experiential learning through camping, environmental education, and a wide variety of outdoor adventures.

Use by Girl Scout Troops and Groups

Can I rent a property for a troop event? Yes! All sites are available for rent to troops and groups for day or overnight use. Day use is 6 hours from 8:00 am - 2: 00 pm or 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Overn ight use is overnight - from 3:00 pm one day to 2:00 pm the next day.

And, on Mondays through Thursdays you can use the grounds for free (maximum of 2 hours; must reserve in advance.) Contact Shirley Schmidt at 978.689.8015 ext. 229 to book a site.

Rental by Community Businesses and Organizations

Are you a business looking for a unique and affordable location for your next company meeting, retreat, or corporate event? Are you a youth-serving agency looking for a facility to accomodate your outdoor program? All of our facilities are available for rent to the community.

Each of our properties is described in detail below. Highlights include:

  • Modern lodges with kitchens that can serve up to 170 people in one sitting
  • Full day meeting facilities with large group and breakout rooms
  • Winterized lodges with large fireplaces and sleeping capacity up to 50 people
  • Adirondack shelters with sleeping capacity of 10 per Adirondack
  • Primitive camp sites
  • Pool rental (must provide lifeguard)
  • Boating (canoes, rowboats, paddle boats)

Camp Paradise Beverly, Massachusetts

  • Camp Paradise is on ten-acres of forest with a small pond.
  • The site is a private, quiet setting for recreation and reflection.
  • A modern winterized lodge with a fireplace has sleeping capacity of 50 people or seating for 70 with two small breakout rooms.
  • 2-Adirondack Lean-Tos, with a sleeping capacity of 10 per Adirondack are good for three season camping.
  • An ideal setting for a meeting, training, classroom project, informal group outing, or an overnight.
  • A great spot for pond and forest studies and stargazing.
  • Close to Salem and Gloucester, Peabody-Essex Museum, The Witch Museum, Cabot Street Theater, home of a 25 year-old magic show, and the North Shore Music Theater.

Friendship House Gloucester, Massachusetts

  • Friendship House has seasonal views of Gloucester Harbor and is an easy walk to downtown Gloucester.
  • A converted one-room schoolhouse, Friendship House is a cozy, year-round facility that has a sleeping capacity of 20, and meeting space for 50.
  • Across the street is Stage Fort Park, a great place to go tide pooling or explore the site of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, founded in 1623.
  • Visit the nation’s oldest fishing port and watch the numerous boats in the harbor. Friendship House offers an excellent base for exploring historic Cape Ann including: going on a whale watch, harbor tour, or schooner sail, touring the Coast Guard Station or visiting the Cape Ann Historical Association, Fisherman at the Wheel, Fishermen’s Memorial, The Paper House, Halibut Point State Park, or Essex Shipbuilding Museum.

The Center Rowley, Massachusetts

  • The Center is on 200-acres of meadow lands and forest which abuts a small brook.
  • Two lodges, Brookside Lodge and Rocky Knoll Lodge, have a fireplace, sleeping capacity of 32 and meeting space for 60. (Brookside Lodge closed November 1 - April 15)
  • The Center also has 4 platform tent units, each with a sleeping capacity of 20 people,Windy Meadows, a primitive camping area with a capacity of 100 people, and a Cook Shelter.
  • Outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool is open from May 15 through September 15. On-site program ideas include archery, hiking, cross-country skiing, playing games, glacial geology studies, stargazing, and nature investigations.
  • The Center is convenient to many North Shore attractions including: Crane Beach and Castle Hill, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport, Custom’s House Museum, Parker and Ipswich Rivers, and Topsfield Fair.

Camp Maude Eaton Andover, Massachusetts

  • Camp Maude Eaton is set on 55 acres and is surrounded by conservation land, the Shawsheen River, and Pomps Pond.
  • This modern winterized lodge has a fireplace and sleeping capacity of 50 people or seating for 62 with two small breakout rooms. In addition, Camp Maude Eaton has a small cabin with a daytime capacity of 30 people and four Primitive sites with pavilions.
  • Our only site with a low rope course. Interpretive nature trail in the Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Sanctuary.
  • Pomps Pond is excellent for swimming, pond study, row boating, canoeing, or paddleboating. While the Shawsheen River offers great canoeing or kayaking opportunities.
  • Adjacent to Camp Maude Eaton is Andover Village Improvement Society conservation land, which has splendid hiking trails.
  • On-site program ideas include nature studies, archery, cross-country skiing, and playing games.
  • Nearby sites to visit include Harold Parker State Park, Lawrence Heritage State Park., Phillips Academy, Immigrant City Archives, Ward Reservation, Lawrence Eagle Tribune, or Winnikinni Castle.

Camp Runels Pelham, New Hampshire

  • Camp Runels consists of 300 acres located on Little Island Pond.
  • The winterized lodge sleeps 20 people and has a daytime capacity of 32 people.
  • In addition, the Dining Hall accommodates 150+ people at a time. Camp Runels also has seasonal (April 15 – October 15) accommodations for 240 campers in a mix of platform tent, tentalo, and cabin units.
  • Various program buildings and pavilions compliment the overnight areas.
  • Little Island Pond is great for swimming, canoeing, paddleboating, row boating, sail boating, and kayaking.
  • Sports options include a playing field with a back stop, sand volleyball court, basketball court and archery.
  • On site program ideas include hiking, cross-country skiing, playing games, stargazing, and nature study.
  • Nearby sites to visit include: Mystery Hill: America’s Stonehenge; American Textile History Museum, Boott Cotton Mills Museum, Lowell National Historic Park, ICEnter, The Sports Museum of New England, and Canobie Lake Park.
