Do
I have to be a Girl Scout?
Any girl entering grades 1-12 is welcome
at our summer programs regardless of race, creed, national origin,
or disability. There is an additional fee for girls who are not
currently registered members. Each girl who registers for camp will
be registered as a Girl Scout, and will receive information in the
Fall to let her know more about Girl Scouting opportunities.
What
if my daughter needs special accommodations?
Every effort is made to make reasonable
accommodations. If you have questions about a specific accommodation,
call 978-689-8015 x233 and speak to the Director of Outdoor Program.
Is
financial assistance available?
Assistance is available for girls who
demonstrate need. Girls must be currently registered and live within
the Girl Scouts of Spar and Spindle jurisdiction. Complete the financial
assistance request form on the last page of the brochure.
Can I help financially
support girls with need?
YES!
As part of registration, you can choose to donate to the financial
aid assistance fund. Last year, girls donated enough to send 15
campers to camp who otherwise would not have been able to attend.
Can we visit the camp before we sign up?
OPEN HOUSE
afternoons are scheduled for Sunday April
13, 2008 and Sunday May 18, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Wednesday
June 11 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This is a chance to
tour the camp, talk with some of the staff, and even register on
the spot!
How are the
staff selected?
Staff are selected based on their previous
experience, skills and certifications. Many of our staff return
year after year and provide on-going positive role models for the
campers. We recruit staff who are teachers, college students, parents
and previous campers. All staff are interviewed and have background
and reference checks as part of our hiring process, as well as 24
or more hours of training before they work with campers. The Staff
to Camper ratio is 1:6.
Can I go to
camp with a friend?
Friends may be placed together, but
they must be signed up for the exact same weeks and program age
level. Parents must put the buddy name on the registration form,
and the names must match. Large groups of friends (more than 4)
may be in different patrols or, at resident camp, different tents
for sleeping..
What medical
information must I have?
Day Campers
must have an immunization record from their physician’s office
or an official school record. Parents must also complete the health
history form which will be sent with their confirmation packet.
Keep a copy for your records, and note that all medical records
are due four weeks prior to the camp program.
Resident Campers will
be sent a physical examination form with their confirmation packet.
The physical form must be completed by a physician in partnership
with the parent. Keep a copy for your records, and note that all
medical records are due four weeks prior to their camp program.
Are the camps
American Camp Association (ACA) Accredited?
All of our day camp and resident camp
programs are ACA Accredited and meet or exceed national standards
in the areas of health, safety, program, and administration. All
of our programs meet local and state codes and are licensed children’s
camps. We also meet or exceed the Girl Scout Safety-Wise standards,
which are stricter than many ACA requirements.
How
do I register my daughter for camp?
The 2008 Summer Camp brochure will be available in January 2008.
It is available online now! Camp registrations opens January 15,
2008. Complete the camp registration form for each girl. Send the
completed form with a $50 non-refundable deposit for each program.
If your daughter is not a currently registered Girl Scout, you will
need to include the $25 non-girl scout fee with her registration
form. Payment may be made by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, money order,
personal check or cash. Please do not send cash in the mail. Once
the completed registration form and deposit(s) are received, girls
are registered into programs on a first-come, first-entered basis.
All registrations received on a date are put together, and then
entered lottery-style until that day’s entries are complete.
We will contact you by phone if the program is full; otherwise,
you will receive a confirmation packet in the mail 4-6 weeks after
your daughter is registered.
We will bill you for the remaining balance after your deposit; all
program fees must be paid no later than June 16, regardless of when
your daughter attends camp. Girls with outstanding balances will
not be permitted to attend camp; their names will be removed from
the camp list, and another girl from the waiting list will take
her place.
What
is the Refund Policy?
A full refund, minus the deposit, will be given up to four weeks
before the program for which your daughter is registered with written
notification from the parent. Within four weeks of the program,
no refunds are given except for medical reasons with a note from
a physician. No refund will be given for any reason once the child
is at camp. If the council must cancel a program, a full refund,
including the deposit, will be given.
